Television roles

Emmerdale

He played the part of Miles De Souza a fictional character on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. He made his first appearance on 1 November 2007. During the Inside Soap Awards 2007 in September, Ayden chatted to DS about his mysterious character.[6]

In an interview with Emmerdale website, he commented on his on-screen persona:

"Miles is like a lost little boy with lots of problems to work though,” Ayden told itv.com. “He’s bordering on being an alcoholic and when you have a drink problem it’s always there in the back of your mind, like a demon.” [7]

It was revealed in early April that Miles was to be written out of the soap in August 2008 [8] but he isn't being killed off. The door's being left open for his return.[9]

Prior to Emmerdale, Callaghan also had roles in:

Ayden appeared also in 3 episodes of Loose Women - 2007 - S.12 - E.43/77/80 - Playing himself.

Filmography

Theatre

The Elephant Man - reviews

"Ayden Callaghan was perfectly cast as the doctor that struggles with his own guilt, sees himself in his patient more than he cares to admit, and has an incredible amount of self-loathing in the middle of it all. When Merrick points out things to him - that he already knows but wishes he didn’t - he gets angry and frustrated. Ayden does this role incredibly well, acting out his suppressed anger and hatred as intended." (Terri Knudsen, journalist and long-term theatre critic) [17]

"Ayden Callaghan is equally restrained as the stern but caring Treves. It’s a potentially cold role but he makes it work, conveying the character’s inner moral turmoil better than a rather contrived and tiresome dream sequence can." (Natasha Tripney)[18]
